Once again I found myself aimlessly browsing the homework portion of Reddit where users post homework problems and ask for help. I found one involving trusses similar to what I once would have found in my engineering statics homework questions. It's been 10+ years since I solved a physics problem involving trusses; however, I was … Continue reading Calculating Truss Forces

Early Detection Alarm System to Curb Water Damage
Water damage doesn’t just occur while one is away from their place of residence and unable to take action to address the dilemma. Some instances of water damage can arise while one is home but otherwise occupied and not cognizant of the leakage until severe damage has transpired. Humanity has solved the parallel issue of fire damage with the installation of smoke alarms. Such alarms mitigate fire damage and loss of life as they allow for the fire to be halted before it becomes an inferno. Why is it then that alarms don’t exist for water damage?
Two Axis Immobilization Spinal Fusion
The loss of mobility resulting from spinal fusion is a cause for concern given that it has the potential to impact the quality of life a patient can lead. This concern is even more evident in the case of spinal fusion surgery done to correct scoliosis. A design for fusing vertebrae is needed that is able to immobilize a specific region of the spine without adversely affecting the patient's range of motion beyond what is necessary.
Using Altair’s Inspire Software for Topology Optimization of Crutch
I chose to perform a topology optimization on a crutch design to determine the optimum material placement that minimizes volume and maximizes stiffness. It was my interest to see if the result of the topology optimization was similar to the current crutch design and in what way these designs differed.
A More Discriminate Way of Eliminating Mosquitoes
Indiscriminate killing of insects by bug zappers can be detrimental to local ecological food chains. There exists a need for a bug zapping device which would be able to target mosquitos without causing harm to other insect species.
Mathematically Modeling of a Simplified Hemodialysis Flow
The mathematical modelling of hemodialysis can be done by making some simplifying assumptions.
